No that's not Gus in the picture it's Izzy again!
Gus carves real pumpkins & artificial alike.
Gus has a good supply of un-carved artificial pumpkins ready to go under the knife.
Gus is available for commercial & TV film work, & corporate events with enough forward planning, though October obviously gets busy he will consider anything that sounds fun & promotes pumpkin carving & Halloween, a plug for the 3 main sites he uses would be greatly appreciated as without them there would be far less hyped up children at the end of each October!
Gus is not shy in front of people or camera's, ..is quite an eloquent orator, pumpkin carving is after all an inclusive social event.
Whilst Gus is open to suggestion he prefers* using hand selected pumpkins from his local farmer who supplies the likes of Harrods with his seasonal wares (look elsewhere on this site to see why) your typical supermarket pumpkins (Waitrose excepted) are typically lesser pumpkins from eastern europe, one size fits all, dubious eating, often heavily bruised, picked early so incredibly short lifespans whether carved or not, & less than interesting facings to carve, far more prone to collapse if speeding through a time limited segment in studio conditions.
*if you've a decent uk pumpkin patch source i'm keen to try them, however we'd need to clarify a few points as to your own selection for carving, such as height, width, depth, etc..
The noble British Pumpkin on the other hand tends to be of exceptional size quality, & appearance, makes for great eating, firm flesh ideal for carving & long service when carved.
Besides that ...support your British Farmers!
As a decent pumpkin can last several weeks easily if a few simple rules are observed, so as long as your production company plans ahead I can fulfill large scale pumpkin requirements.
Or possibly supply you with a selection of pre-carved funkins for essential non-rot scenarios.
Gus can happily pre-prep & transfer patterns to pumpkins well in advance if required, using his preservation technique they could even be completed & despatched via courier with suitable packaging.
An outdoors display can also be capable of display for a good 14 days with minimal care, unlike your typical supermarket pumpkin! ...Gus's pumpkins are also bigger making infill far easier thus maximising event impact.
Being bigger , they're tougher & able to take a bit of abuse with no ill will!
Gus's own ongoing local tradition is of paramount importance to him & children who come from the surrounding area to look at the display & get spooked or soaked, so from the 29th of October is typically Gus's last available date.
Good Halloween planners start in the summer months!
Please contact Gus to discuss possibilities & check available dates.
If Gus is not available personally then he may be able to assist with sourcing alternate carvers within the U.K.
" It's really not about carving the best pumpkin.
It's about carving one better than your neighbours. "
